YOUTH MEDIA BRIGADE

CNS is focused on training Latinx youth in multimedia storytelling and developing/implementing a workforce development strategy that will bridge the Latinx youth media gap and empower them to make a living telling the stories of their community.

  • Creating new opportunities for young people to explore and find connections to their community through the art of the documentary.

  • Developing new opportunities that enhance and support young people’s mental health and wellness; and

  • Expanding of new "third spaces" and places (outside school/work and home) where young people feel safe, welcome, and supported

  • Offering  cultural visibility of the Latinx community in Durham.

  • Create an apprenticeship for Latino/youth of color to train in sustainable documentary work that is community centered and non-extractive.

  • Expanding the definition of “documentary”.

  • Incubating and showcase multimedia media created by youth through exhibits and screenings and community centered events

  • Collaborating with other institutions that need media creation

  • Offering a community centered workforce development model for Youth that will bridge the media gap and empower them to make a living through their art.

THE media youth brigade is funded through a GRANT FROM THE DURHAM youth leadership fund AND WITH ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FROM ALTERNATE ROOTS.
