TAPS LATINO

Community centered muralism

We are all creators

TAPS Latino is a community program of the North Carolina Arts Council for Latino youth 12-18 and their families centered on the art and practice of muralism and public art in all its forms. Participants will learn about the history, the practices and the cultural significance of muralism and public art across Latin America and the United States. Participants will explore their roots and how one finds a way to belong as an migrant between cultures.

TAPS offers painting, photography, oral history and public art installation workshops. Participants will see movies, visit museums and tour the murals of Durham, we will have special guests from the fields of academic and the arts and we will create together and share the stories of our migrant experience.

TAPS is funded by the North Carolina Arts Council, fiscally sponsored by SEEDS, inc. who is also hosting the program for free. TAPS is also sponsored by The Scrap Exchange and Nuevo South, LLC.

This program is process oriented, our goal is to build a creative community that will participate in a series of concrete art projects: public art installations, pop up events, public murals, gathering and celebrations and a magazine.

Our dream is to strengthen our family and community bonds by sharing our stories, while offering our youth the necessary workforce development skills to pursue, if desired, a career in the fields of community centered art.
